Baltimore, Md.-- Redshirt freshman Anna Lonchar (Bristow, Va.) hit a two-run home run, but visiting Hartford (20-29, 6-12 AE) rallied for a 6-3 victory on Senior Day at UMBC.
A five-run fifth inning would put the Hawks up 5-3, and they added an unearned run in the top of the sixth for the final score. Only two of Hartford's six runs were earned.
Gillian McCarthy (Northfield, N.J.) fell to 8-10 on the season after allowing five runs, only two earned, in 4.2 innings of work. Courtney Coppersmith (York, Pa.) worked the final 2.1 innings, striking out six, walking one, allowing one hit and one unearned run.
Daigneau went 2-for-3, ashe was the only Retriever with multiple hits. Coppersmith, Stupey, Kaly Winslow (Leesburg, Va.), Julia Keffler (Huntingtown, Md.) and Valerie Hammett (Mechanicsville, Md.) all had hits for the Retrievers.
Senior Shayna Rider (Westminster, Md.) scored as a pinch-runner on Lonchar's home run. It was her first appearance of the season after missing the entire year due to injury.
The game was the final one at home for seniors Mallory Pollack (Ivyland, Pa.), Rider and Stupey.
UMBC clinched the No.4 seed in the America East Tournament and will face tournament host and No.5 seed Hartford on Wednesday at 11 a.m.
