Softball to Honor Seniors This Weekend Against Hartford

The UMBC Softball team closes out the 2019 regular season by hosting Hartford for a pivotal three game series with playoff implications. It will also be the final games at home for seniors Mallory Pollack, Shayna Rider and Jenna Stupey.

Each team qualifies for the six-team America East Tournament with a victory, or Maine losing twice against Stony Brook.

Scouting UMBC (24-21, 5-10 AE) 

Sierra Pierce (Youngstown, Ohio) continues to lead the Retrievers in average (.340) and RBI (29). Julia Keffler (Huntingtown, Md.) and Courtney Coppersmith (York, Pa.) each have .301 averages, while Kaly Winslow (Leesburg, Va.) has a team-best six home runs, while Anna Lonchar (Bristow, Va.) has five.

Coppersmith is 16-12 with a 1.80 ERA in the circle for UMBC. She has a conference-best (and second in the nation) 288 strikeouts.

Scouting Hartford (18-27, 5-10 AE):

The Hawks are coming of a doubleheader split at Holy Cross on Wednesday. Danielle Rocheleau is one of the top hitters in the conference, carrying a .434 average with five homers and 33 RBI into the weekend. Nicolette Barranger is batting .329 with 46 hits, including 11 triples.

Julianna Kocenski leads the Hartford rotation with a 12-14 record and a 4.30 ERA. She has 74 strikeouts and 15 complete games in 159.2 innings pitched. Isabella Gerone is 3-6 with a 5.41 ERA.

Friday's doubleheader will begin at noon.
