Softball Set for Four Games This Week

The UMBC Softball team continues its busy week at the Maryland Invite on Thursday (Rhode Island and Maryland) and Sunday (Villanova), and by welcoming Bryant for a single game on Sunday.

Scouting Rhode Island (6-9):

The Rams enter play having won three in a row and taking four of five overall last weekend at the Charleston Invitational. Rhody split on Friday, as they defeated NC State (1-0) and fell to host College of Charleston (4-0). They then swept Youngstown State (7-1) and Marist (5-2) on Saturday and then beat Bryant (3-0) on Sunday.

Faith Musselwhite paces the Ram offense with a .313 average, four doubles, two homers, a triple and nine RBI. Becca Rogers has seen the bulk of the action in the circle, pitching to a 4-2 record with 1.84 ERA, 43 strikeouts and 13 walks.

Scouting Maryland (12-11):

The Terrapins went 2-3 last weekend at the Stetson Invitational in Deland, Fla, with all five matchups being one score games. Taylor Okada is the leader of the Maryland offense. The freshman has a .417 average, 1.014 OPS, with 35 hits, a homer and 13 RBI. Sydney Golden has seen the bulk of the pitching action, and has a record of 8-4 with a 3.27 ERA. She has thrown five complete games with 32 strikeouts and 26 walks.

Scouting Bryant (1-17):

The Bulldogs enter the weekend riding a seven game losing streak and have been shutout in five of those games. They were swept at No.16 South Carolina on Wednesday afternoon by scores of 7-0 and 10-2 (6).

Offensively, Toni Camarillo leads the way with a .278 average and team bests in hits (15), doubles (three) and RBI (four). In the circle, Gabrielle Ermish has a 2.95 ERA in 38 innings.

Scouting Villanova (11-10):

The Wildcats won the first four games of the USF tournament in Clearwater, Fla. before falling to No.20 Wisconsin, 13-1, in five innings. Paige Rauch fills the offensive stat sheets for Vilalnova, as she is batting .362 with a 1.310 OPS and 14 runs scored in 58 at bats. The sophomore has driven in 15 runs and has 21 hits, including two doubles, three triples and six homers. The Binghamton native has also been excellent pitching this year as hse sports a 7-4 record with a 1.10 ERA.
