Softball Faces Towson on Road in "Beltway Battle" Doubleheader on Tuesday

The UMBC Softball team starts a busy week with a doubleheader at Towson on Tuesday afternoon. Please note the game location has been moved from UMBC to Towson.

Scouting UMBC (6-6):

The Retrievers are coming off a 3-1 weekend at the Colonial Classic in D.C. Sierra Pierce (Youngstown, Ohio) is leading the offense in average (.405), hits (15), and doubles (five). Kaly Winslow (Leesburg, Va.) had a big weekend, belting two homers and driving in seven. She also leads the team in slugging percentage (.619)

Freshman pitcher Courtney Coppersmith (York, Pa.) is 4-3 with a 1.82 ERA and 82 strikeouts in 50 innings pitched. Gillian McCarthy (Northfield, N.J.) is 2-2 with a 4.85 ERA.

Scouting Towson (6-6):

The Tigers went 2-2 last weekend at the UNCG Tournament in Greensboro. Due to two tournaments being canceled due to weather, it was the team's first action since February 17. They have split four games in all three tournaments they have played this season.

Julia Smith-Harrington leads Towson on both offense and in the circle. She has a .435 average with 10 hits, nine runs scored, three homers, 12 RBI and a .957 slugging percentage. On the other side, she is 3-0 with a 0.39 ERA, 25 strikeouts and 3 walks. Kendall Arcia is batting .351 with three home runs and 13 RBI.
