  • Pierce Provides Offense and Coppersmith Shuts Down Bats as Softball Defeats Villanova

    Sierra Pierce (Youngstown, Ohio) drove in all three UMBC runs on a pair of two-out singles, while Courtney Coppersmith (York, Pa.) struck out 13 and allowed just three base runners as the UMBC Softball team defeated Villanova, 3-0, on the final day of the Maryland Invite.
  • Pair of Rallies Fall Short for Softball on Thursday

    The UMBC Softball team rallied from multiple run deficits in both games of the Maryland Invite before ultimately falling twice on Thursday. The Retrievers rallied to tie from four runs down against Rhode Island and two runs down against host Maryland, but fell 5-4 and 9-2, respectively.

  • Winslow and Coppersmith Named America East Player and Rookie of the Week; Softball Falls at Towson

    Junior Kaly Winslow (Leesburg, Va.) was named America East Player of the Week, while Courtney Coppersmith (York, Pa.) earned her third America East of Week nod of the season, the conference announced Tuesday.Winslow batted .500 with two homers and seven RBI as UMBC went 3-1 in four games in Washington D.C. Coppersmith went 2-1 with two complete game shutouts, while adding two RBI and three hits at the plate.

    Gillian McCarthy (Northfield, N.J.) and Courtney Coppersmith (York, Pa.) each pitched complete-game shutouts as the UMBC Softball team closed play at the Colonial Classic with a pair of wins on Saturday. The Retrievers defeated Cornell, 10-0, in five innings and followed that with a 4-0 victory over Canisius.
  • Winslow Smacks Walk-Off Homer as Softball Splits on Friday; Kuhlmeyer Earns 100th Career Win

    Junior Kaly Winslow (Leesburg, Va.) hit walk-off a two-run homer with none out in the bottom of the sixth to lead the UMBC Softball team to an 8-0 run-rule victory over Canisius on Friday morning in Washington D.C. The Retrievers then faced Colonial Classic host George Washington in rain and snow in the afternoon, and fell 11-3 in five innings.
  • Softball Heads to D.C. for Colonial Classic

    This weekend, the UMBC Softball team travels to Washington D.C. for the Colonial Classic hosted by George Washington. The Retrievers will start play on Friday against Canisius (10 a.m.) and the host Colonials (2 p.m., ESPN+). On Saturday, UMBC closes out play with games at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. against Cornell and Canisius, respectively.

    Freshman Logan Hawker (Mechanicsville, Va.) had a two RBI single and senior Mallory Pollack (Ivyland, Pa.) had the first multi-hit game of her career, but the UMBC Softball team dropped a pair of games on Sunday afternoon to close out the Courtyard by Marriott Seahawk Softball Classic.

    Freshman Courtney Coppersmith (York, Pa.) dazzled as she struck out a school record 17 batters and scored the only run as the UMBC Softball team defeated host UNC Wilmington 1-0 on Saturday morning. The Retrievers then came alive at the plate in a 9-1, five inning, romp over North Carolina A&T later in the afternoon.

    The UMBC Softball team returns to North Carolina as it takes part in the Courtyard by Marriott Seahawk Softball Classic hosted by UNC Wilmington. The Retrievers will face Lehigh (10 a.m.) and North Carolina A&T (5:30 p.m.) on Friday, face host UNCW (10 a.m.) and have a rematch with NC A&T (3 p.m.) on Saturday. The the tournament concludes with UMBC and Lehigh squaring off at 10 a.m. on Sunday.

     Freshman pitcher Courtney Coppersmith (York, Pa.) has been named America East Rookie of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday evening. Coppersmith entered in relief in the season opener against Delaware on Sunday. The lefty pitched 4.2 innings, striking out 10, walking three, while allowing just three and not allowing an earned run. The UMBC Softball team travels Raleigh for the Fairfield Inn & Suites Crabtree Invitational hosted by N.C. State, February 22-24. The Retrievers will face Georgia Southern and the host Wolfpack on Friday, with first pitch against the Eagles in the original 2019 opener set for 12:15 pm.

  • Softball Announces Fall Schedule

    First year head coach Chris Kuhlmeyer has announced the 2018 UMBC Softball Fall Schedule. The Retrievers will play six games, via three double-headers against regional opponents. UMBC travels to Delaware to face the Blue Hens on Saturday, September 22. The following weekend, UMBC literally crosses the street to play CCBC Catonsville at noon, before returning to campus one week later for two games with Coppin State.
