Alexander Named AE Player of the Week; Softball Travels to Stony Brook to Close Out Regular Season

Having already clinched a spot in the six team America East tournament, the UMBC softball team (12-28, 7-9 AE) travels to Stony Brook (19-19, 7-6 AE) for a single game to close out the regular season on Wednesday, May 2. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 pm, as this game will wrap up the three game series that was started two weeks ago.

UMBC is coming off a three game sweep of Hartford this past weekend. Tori Alexander (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge Senior) had a stellar weekend, going 7-for-13, with five RBI, five runs scored, four stolen bases, and two game winning hits to earn America East Player of the Week honors.

Alexander is second on the team in hitting, batting at a .331 clip, while Valerie Hammett (Mechanicsville, Md./Chopticon) leads the team in batting (.343) and is tied with Carly Lesko (New Milford, N.J./New Milford) for the team lead in RBI with 17. Imani Dawson (Hanover, Md./Seton Keough) leads the team with four home runs.

Kim Puccio (Sparta, N.J./Sparta) leads the pitching staff in wins (7), innings pitched (128.1), strikeouts (58), and ERA (4.09)

Scouting the Seawolves:

Stony Brook is coming off a weekend series at UMass Lowell. Originally a three game series, the series was cut to two games due to inclement weather. The Seawolves dropped both games on Saturday.

Leading Stony Brook at the plate, Melissa Rahrich is hitting .427. Irene Rivera leads the team in RBI with 28, as Taylor Pechin leads the squad in home runs with seven.

Rahrich leads the pitching staff, with team highs in wins (11), innings pitched (120.1), and strikeouts (84). She is tied with Lindsey Hughes for the team lead in ERA at 4.34.
