Baltimore, Md. – The UMBC Softball team (5-19) opens up America East Conference play for the
2018 season, when it welcomes UMass Lowell (6-16) to Baltimore for a three game series this
weekend. They will begin with a doubleheader on Friday, March 30 at 1 p.m. and a single game
on Saturday, March 31 at noon.
UMBC is coming off of a 12-3, five inning, loss to UMKC on Wednesday afternoon in Baltimore. Erin Trnka
(Goffstown, N.H./Goffstown) hit her first career home run, hitting a two run blast in the third
inning to center field.
The Retrievers are lead at the plate by a trio of players. Valerie Hammett (Mechanicsville,
Md./Chopticon) leads the team in hitting with a .361 batting average. Imani Dawson (Hanover,
Md./Seton Keough) leads the team in home runs with three, while Carly Lesko (New Milford,
N.J./New Milford) leads in RBI with 10. Kim Puccio (Sparta, N.J./Sparta) leads the pitching staff
in wins (four), innings pitched (80.0), and strikeouts (37).
Scouting the Riverhawks:
UMass Lowell is coming off a doubleheader against Quinnipiac, in which they split the games.
They dropped the first game 2-1, but came back and won game two 9-0 in five innings.
Sara Siteman is the leader on the offensive part of the game for the Riverhawks, sporting a
team best .362 average and leading the team in RBI with 12. Casey Harding brings the power
with nine extra base hits and a team high three home runs. In the circle, Lovina Capria leads the
staff with a 6-3 record to go along with a 2.70 ERA. She also leads the team with 59.2 innings
