Baltimore, Md. — The UMBC Softball team (2-17) starts their final descend on non-conference games, as they chost the UMBC Retriever Classic at UMBC Softball Stadium from Saturday, March 24 to Sunday, March 25.
The Retrievers will face Saint Peters Saturday at 3:45 PM, and play a doubleheader against Rider on Sunday at 1:30 PM and 3:45 PM.
UMBC will continue play at home, after hosting the Hampton Inn BWI UMBC Dawg Pound Invitational last weekend. The Retrievers hope to bounce back after dropping four games close contests last weekend.
Freshman catcher Imani Dawson (Hanover, Md./Seton Keough) led the Retrievers last weekend, hitting two home runs and adding four RBI. Dawson is averaging .333 for the season. Sophomore shortstop Maddie Daigneau (New River, Ariz./Boulder Creek) contributed as well with four hits and three runs over the weekend, and is batting a team high .339 for the season.
Scouting the Peacocks:
St. Peters (2-10) returns back to UMBC Softball Stadium, as they competed in the UMBC Dawg Pound tournament last weekend. The Peacocks went 0-4 for the weekend.
Harley Connors leads the Peacocks by batting .467 and slugging .633 for the season. Theamaris Ramirez also highly contributes, batting .333 for the season.
Barbara Verrastro and Mary Mastriani share time on the pitching mound, with Mastriani having a team high 11 strikeouts.
Scouting the Broncs:
Rider (2-13) is coming off of a 0-2 matchup against Stetson University in Deland, Fl.
Kiera Swank leads the Broncs in batting, averaging .417 and slugging at .625. Against Stetson, Monica Clark went 4-for-7 in both games, with two RBI's in the second matchup.
Pitching for the Broncs can be looked to Emily Oltman or Elyse Cuttic, both with a win each for the season.
