Baltimore, Md. – The UMBC softball team (2-13) continues their non-conference schedule, when they play host to the Hampton Inn BWI UMBC Dawg Pound Invitational on Friday through Sunday, taking on La Salle, Sacred Heart, and Drexel.
The Retrievers will take on La Salle and Sacred Heart on Friday at 1:30 PM and 3:45 PM, respectively, La Salle on Saturday at 3:45 PM, and Drexel on Sunday at 3:45 PM.
UMBC enters the weekend tournament after splitting a double header at Morgan State last Saturday, taking the first game 7-4, and dropping the second 6-1. Freshman Julia Keffler (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown) and sophomore Maddie Daigneau (New River, Ariz./Boulder Creek) led the way in the win. Keffler went 3-for-4, driving in and scoring a run, while Daigneau went 2-for-3 and scored three runs in the victory.
On the season, Daigneau leads the team at the plate with a .372 batting average, 11 runs scored, 16 hits, and three triples. In the circle, the Retrievers are led by senior Kim Puccio (Sparta, N.J./Sparta) with a 3.88 ERA and 27 strikeouts.
Scouting the Explorers:
La Salle (3-11) enters the weekend after taking part in the Blue-White Classic last weekend in Hampton, Va. The Explorers went 1-4 on the weekend, including a 5-4 victory over the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and a 5-4 loss in eight innings against America East foe Albany.
La Salle is led at the plate by Emily Conaway, who sports a team-best .326 batting average, 14 hits, and eight doubles. Emma Schweigert leads the team in homeruns with three. In the circle, Marlo Roadcap leads the way with a 3.99 ERA, 35 strikeouts, and a .272 batting average against.
Scouting the Pioneers:
Sacred Heart (9-8) is coming off a strong weekend in Wilmington, N.C., going 4-1 in the UNC-Wilmington Tournament. The Pioneers finished the weekend off with a 13-0 victory over North Carolina A&T.
Fallon Bevino leads the way on offense for Sacred Heart with a .306 average, 15 hits, and eight RBI. Lauren Delgadillo leads the team in homeruns with two, runs scored with nine, and walks with seven.
Kristen McCann leads the pitching staff with a 1.28 ERA over 65.2 innings pitched. She has also struck out 71 batters and tossed seven complete games in 10 games started. Emily Orosco sports a 1.73 ERA over 36.1 innings pitched and has struck out 55 batters.
Scouting the Dragons:
Drexel (4-5-1) enters play this weekend after taking part in the Stetson Tournament in DeLand, Fla. The Dragons went 3-2 over the weekend, including a pair of 9-8 victories over the hosts Stetson and Bethune-Cookman, and an 11-1 triumph over Cornell.
Hannah Walker and Taylor M. Lee lead the Dragons on offense, with Walker hitting a team-best .458, and Lee leading the team in hits (12), homeruns (4), and RBI (12). Lee is also slugging a team-high .800. Brooklyn Daly leads the way in the circle with a 2.75 ERA over 20.1 innings pitched and a .253 batting average against.
