Softball Hosts St.Bonaventure, Travels to Morgan State This Weekend

Baltimore, Md. – The UMBC softball team (1-12) will play at home for the first time in 2018 when it hosts St. Bonaventure in a doubleheader on Friday. The games against the Bonnies will open the MSU Invitational, as the Retrievers will travel across town to face host Morgan State in a doubleheader on Saturday.

 

The Retrievers are coming off participating in the Georgetown Tournament down at the nation's capital this past weekend. Friday's games were cancelled due to inclement weather, with the Retrievers dropping the three games they played in.

 

UMBC is paced at the plate by sophomore shortstop Maddie Daigneau (New River, Ariz./Boulder Creek). She has a team highs in batting average (.351 ) and slugging percentage (.541) and is the only Retriever with double digit total bases (20). Imani Dawson (Hanover, Md./Seton Keough) had a productive weekend, getting her first piece of action this season. She hit .429 (3-for-7) with a home run, three RBI, and a run to go along en route to being named America East Rookie of the Week.

 

Kim Puccio  (Sparta, N.J./Sparta) is holding the pitching staff down for the black and gold. She is posting team highs in ERA (4.32), strikeouts (23), innings pitched (45.1), and has the lone win of the season.

 

Scouting the Bonnies:

St. Bonaventure (2-7) is returning to the Baltimore area after participating in the Coppin State Eagle Classic Tournament the past weekend. After their first game was cancelled, they collected their first two wins of the season before dropping the last game of the tournament. Offensively, Elizabeth Enovitch leads the Bonnies in hitting, sporting a team high .333 batting average. Grace Perechinsky and Alexandra Piergustavo split the team lead in RBI with five each, as Piergustavo having the lone home run on the squad. In the circle, Grace Van Horn has the team lead in ERA with a 4.85. Rylee Hehir has the team lead in innings pitched (21.0) and strikeouts (22) while splitting the team lead in wins with Josie Borysevicz.

 

Scouting the Lady Bears:

Morgan State (4-9) host their second straight tournament, as they just hosted the MSU Tournament this past weekend. Their first game was cancelled, winning one of the three games they played in. Damali Young leads the team offensively, having team highs in batting average (.476) and home runs (2). She is only second to Gabriella Gorosave (7) in RBI with six. Amy Begg leads the pitching staff in ERA (1.67), wins (three), innings pitched (37.2), strikeouts (30), and has pitched all four complete games the staff has thrown.
