The UMBC Softball team saw its 2018 season come to a close with two losses on the first day of the America East Tournament at Binghamton University on Wednesday. The sixth-seeded Retrievers dropped the opening game to third-seeded Stony Brook, 5-1, and then fell to fourth-seeded Maine, 5-3, in the elimination game later in the day. UMBC finishes the season with a 12-31 record.
Senior Tori Alexander was named to the America East All-Conference for the second consecutive season, while classmate Carly Lesko (New Milford, N.J.) repeated on the All-Academic team and freshman Imani Dawson (Hanover, Md.) earned All-Rookie Team honors at the America East Awards Banquet on the campus of Binghamton University on Tuesday night.
Freshman Julia Keffler (Huntingtown, Md.) went 3-for-4, while senior Tori Alexander (Woodbridge, Va.) continued her hot streak, getting two hits, two stolen bases a walk and a run, but it wasn’t enough as the UMBC Softball team dropped a 3-2, nine-inning, heartbreaker at Stony Brook on Wednesday afternoon. This was the final regular season game for the Retrievers, as they have a bye weekend before heading to Binghamton for the America East Tournament, which begins next Wednesday.
Having already clinched a spot in the six team America East tournament, the UMBC softball team (12-28, 7-9 AE) travels to Stony Brook (19-19, 7-6 AE) for a single game to close out the regular season on Wednesday, May 2. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 pm, as this game will wrap up the three game series that was started two weeks ago.
Tori Alexander (Woodbridge, Va/Woodbridge) drove in three runs, while adding three hits as well, as UMBC (12-28, 7-9 AE) completed a sweep of Hartford Sunday afternoon at the UH Softball Stadium by a score of 11-5.
The UMBC Softball team heads north to play Hartford in its last weekend road series of America East Conference play, starting with a double-header starting at noon on Saturday, and the final game slated for 11 am on Sunday. UMBC will travel to Stony Brook on Wednesday, May 2nd for a single game to conclude the regular season.
Senior Haley DeLany(Lederach, Pa.) singled and reached base twice, but the UMBC Softball team fell to visiting Albany, 4-0 on Senior day in Baltimore. The game was the final home appearance for DeLany and five classmates: Tori Alexander (Woodbridge, Va.), Carly Lesko (New Milford, N.J.), Kim Puccio (Sparta, N.J.), Toni Santonastasso (Canonsburg, Pa.) and Erin Trnka (Goffstown, N.H.).
Baltimore, Md. – Freshman pitcher Brianna Baker (Waldorf, Md./North Point) led the UMBC softball team (9-27, 4-8 AE) to a 7-0 victory over the defending America East Champion Albany Great Danes. Baker threw a complete game shutout, allowing six hits and striking out two batters.
The UMBC Softball team will close out the home schedule by hosting defending America East champion Albany beginning on Saturday at 1 pm. The series will mark the final home appearances for six seniors: Tori Alexander (Woodbridge, Va.), Haley DeLany (Lederach, Pa.), Carly Lesko (New Milford, N.J.), Kim Puccio (Sparta, N.J.), Toni Santonastasso (Canonsburg, Pa.) and Erin Trnka (Goffstown, N.H.).

Imani Dawson (Hanover, Md.) homered and was one of three players who drove in two runs as UMBC scored eight runs in three innings and pulled out an 8-6 victory over Binghamton in the second game of a doubleheader Saturday, earning a split in the America East twin bill.
Senior Carly Lesko (New Milford, N.J.) went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, including smacking the eventual game-winning RBI single as the UMBC Softball Team knocked-off visiting UMass Lowell, 6-1, to open America East play on Friday afternoon.
The UMBC Softball team (5-19) opens up America East Conference play for the
2018 season, when it welcomes UMass Lowell (6-16) to Baltimore for a three game series this
weekend. They will begin with a doubleheader on Friday, March 30 at 1 p.m. and a single game
on Saturday, March 31 at noon.
Baltimore, Md. – Redshirt senior Erin Trnka (Goffstown, N.J./Goffstown) recorded her first career homerun over the right-center field fence, as UMBC (5-19), lost 12-3 in five innings against UMKC on Wednesday.
Sophomore Valerie Hammett (Mechanicsville, Md.) picked up her first victory of the season in the circle and also went 6-for-7 with two runs and an RBI at the plate, to help pace the UMBC Softball team in two victories on Sunday afternoon.

Six different UMBC players drove in one run but the team’s early-season struggles continued Sunday as Drexel handed the Retrievers a 10-8 loss in the final game of the Hampton Inn BWI UMBC Dawg Pound Invitational.

Baltimore, Md. – Freshman Imani Dawson (Hanover, Md./Seton Keough) hit a homerun in each of UMBC’s (2-15) games on Friday afternoon, as the softball team dropped games to La Salle and Sacred Heart. Dawson’s solo shot in the second inning against La Salle opened the scoring for UMBC, while her two-run shot against Sacred Heart brought the score even at three in the third inning.
