Lesko Homers, But Softball Falls to First Place Maine

Baltimore, MD -- Junior Carly Lesko (New Milford, N.J./New Milford) smashed homer as six different UMBC (19-23, 3-6) players picked up a hit, but first-place Maine (13-18, 8-1) used four unearned runs to in the fourth to pick up a 4-1 win on Friday.

Lesko's solo homer with two down in the bottom of the first was the only offense the Retrievers could generate as defending America East Pitcher of the Week Erin Bogdanovich was able to keep their bats in check in a complete game effort.

Junior Kim Puccio (Sparta, N.J./Sparta) went four innings, allowing four unearned runs, and striking out two. Nicole Casagrand (Melbourne, Fla./Hatboro-Horsham) went three innings of relief, allowing just one hit and one walk, and getting a strike out.

Maddie Daigneau (New River, Ariz./Boulder Creek), Tori Alexander (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge Senior), Toni Santonastasso (Canonsburg, Pa./ Pope John XXIII Regional), Kaelin Jackson (Export, Pa./Franklin Regional) and Kelly Lane (Albany, N.Y./Colonie Central) also added hits, while Alexander added a stolen base.

The two teams return tomorrow for ad double-header beginning at 11 a.m.
