Albany, N.Y. -- Junior Carly Lesko (New Milford, N.J./ New Milford) went 3-for-4 with two homers and four RBI in game 2 to lead the UMBC Softball team (19-21, 3-4 AE) to a split at Albany (17-14, 2-7) on Friday afternoon.

Both Tori Alexander (Woodbridge, Pa./Woodbridge Senior) and Maddie Daigneau (New River, Ariz./Boulder Creek) went 3-for-4 with an RBI, while senior Kaelin Jackson (Export, Pa./Franklin Regional) went 2-for-4 with a solo home run.

Kim Puccio (Sparta, N.J./ Sparta) went six innings allowing just two earned runs to pick up her league-leading ninth victory of the season.

The Retrievers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in game 2 after Lesko singled home Daigneau in the third. The Great Danes took a 2-1 lead in the fourth, but UMBC responded in the top of the fifth when Lesko blasted a two-out, two-run homer to centerfield. Jackson immediately followed with a solo shot to push the advantage to 4-2.

Daigneau and Alexander would get back-to-back RBI singles in the sixth to make it 6-2, and then Lesko hit her second longball of the game, to make it 7-2 in the seventh. Albany got one back off Nicole Casagrand (Melbourne, Fla./Hatboro-Horsham) the bottom of the inning, but the senior allowed nothing else and sealed the 7-3 win.

In the first game, UMBC jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the third thanks to an RBI groundout by Daigneau and misplayed popup off the bat of Alexander. Albany answered with four in the bottom half of the inning (only two earned) and that was all the scoring in the game as the hosts won 4-2.

The two teams will meet in a rubber match tomorrow at noon.
