Softball Welcomes Morgan State for Wednesday Afternoon Contest

Baltimore, Md.-- The UMBC Softball team (14-18) will host the Morgan State Bears (12-11) for a Wednesday afternoon game at 2 PM.

The Retrievers will look to bounce back after dropping both games of a double header against Binghamton over the weekend.  During the weekend contests, the Retrievers were led offensively by freshman Maddie Daigneau, (New River, Ariz./Boulder Creek), juniors Tori Alexander (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge Senior) and Carly Lesko (New Milford, N.J./New Milford), and senior Jaclyn Buckley (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern Camden Regional).  Daigneau, Alexander, and Lesko all drove in two runs each while Buckley drove in one run.

In the circle, junior Kim Puccio (Sparta, N.J./Sparta) and senior Kelly Lane (Albany, N.Y./Colonie Central) both had solid relief outings, allowing three runs each.  Puccio went 4.1 innings while Lane three innings.

Scouting the Bears:

Morgan State returns to UMBC Softball Stadium for the second time this year, after already taking part in the UMBC First Pitch Kickoff Classic.  The Bears won both matchups against the Retrievers during the tournament.  Morgan State is coming off a series sweep of Howard over the weekend, and is playing a double header on Tuesday against Mount St. Mary's before heading to UMBC.

They are led at the plate by Audrianna Alvarez and Kate Vosper.  Alvarez leads the team in hits (11), RBI (7), and is tied for the lead in homeruns (1).  Vosper is second on the team in hits with nine, has a .375 batting average, and is tied for the lead in homeruns with one.
