Boston, Mass. – Fresh off a week where the UMBC Softball team won four of its five games, freshman Maddie Daigneau (New River, Ariz./Boulder Creek) and junior Kim Puccio (Sparta, N.J./Sparta) swept the America East weekly awards.
Daigneau won America East Player of the Week for the second time the season, as well as Rookie of the Week for the third time this season. She went 15-for-18, a .833 clip, to go along with two doubles, three triples, and a home run. She also produced six RBIs, with four stolen bases and scored eight times. She is currently one triple shy of breaking the freshman single season triple record.
Puccio had a brilliant week in winning conference Pitcher of the Week for a second time this season. She compiled a 2-0 record to go along with a 0.70 ERA, only giving up one run in her 10 innings pitched. She threw eight strikeouts throughout the week, including three in her start on Saturday against Maryland Eastern Shore where she threw five shutout innings.
UMBC returns to play against Howard on Friday at 12:15 pm, as they host their Dawg Pound Invitational.
