Wilmington, N.C. – Freshman Maddie Daigneau (New River, Ariz. / Boulder Creek) went 3-for-3 with two RBI and one double as the UMBC Softball team (4-10) lost to Appalachian State (7-7) in a third-place game at UNCW on Sunday.
The Retrievers gave up four runs in the first inning, and battled back in the third off Dagineau's two-run double, but were unable to get any closer to the hot hitting Moutanineers.
Senior Jaclyn Buckley (Voorhees, N.J. / Eastern Camden Regional) also drove in a run in the contest with a single down the third base line in the sixth.
Dagineau's perfect day at the dish improved her average to .455 on the year. The two RBI increased her total on the season to three. She also stole a base, her fourth of the year, and now has a hit in it in all ten games of her career.
The Retrievers return to action for their first home games of the year, when they take on the Morgan State Bears in a double header on Friday afternoon to kick off the UMBC First Pitch Classic Tournamen
