Softball Sweeps America East Weekly Awards; Jackson Also Named College Sports Madness Player of the Week

Boston, Mass.- Fresh off their first win of the season, the UMBC Softball team swept the America East awards, the conference announced Tuesday morning.

Kaelin Jackson (Export, Pa./Franklin Regional) earned America East Player of the Week honors from both the conference and College Sports Madness, while Kim Puccio (Sparta, N.J./Sparta) was named Pitcher of the Week and Evvie Buehlman (Ellicott City, Md./Mt.Hebron) was named Rookie of the Week.

Jackson was sensational at the plate this past weekend, hitting .533 (8-for-15) with two RBI, three doubles, three runs and a .733 slugging percentage in four games.

Puccio appeared in two games, allowing just one earned run in 7.1 innings pitched. The junior held Belmont to two runs in six innings after Belmont had scored six, seven and nine runs in each of their first three games.

Buehlman had a pinch-hit two RBI single against UMKC, that proved to be the game-winner.

UMBC is back in action on Friday at 10:30 a.m. against Howard in their first game of the North Carolina A&T Aggie Invitational in Greensboro, N.C.
