Vestal, N.Y. – Freshman outfielder Morgan Peyou (Mercer Island, Wash/Mercer Island) and senior shortstop Bridget O'Malley (Baltimore,Md/Seton Keough) earned spots on the America East All-Rookie and All-Academic teams, respectively, the conference announced Tuesday night at a banquet on the campus of Binghamton University.
Peyou earned the All-Rookie nod after finishing ninth in the conference in batting average after hitting .377 in the regular season. Her 58 hits were third-best in the league and her eight sacrifice bunts was tied for second.
O'Malley .381 average was seventh-best in the America East in 2016, while her on-base percentage of .472 was good enough for fifth-best. The senior also finished fifth in hits (56) and was third in walks with 27. In the field, was first in assists 141, 31 ahead of second place.
Peyou and O'Malley will look to lead UMBC to its first NCAA appearance since 2002 and its first ever America East title when the conference tournament begins Wednesday at 11 a.m. against fourth-seeded Stony Brook.
