Softball Closes Home Slate by hosting America East foe UMass Lowell; Senior Class to be Honored Sunday
Baltimore, Md. --  Fresh of of a doubleheader sweep of Norfolk State on Wednesday, the UMBC Softball team will host America East rival UMass Lowell for a three game series beginning with a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday. Sunday's game will be at noon and UMBC will honor its seniors before the game with a special ceremony. On Wednesday, the The Retrievers knocked off the Spartans in game 1, 5-1, before exploding for 10 runs on 15 hits in a 10-2 six inning victory in game 2. 

UMBC (22-26, 3-8) is led by senior shortstop Bridget O'Malley (Baltimore, Md./Seton Keough) with 28 RBI and the team's best .387 batting average. Sophomore pitcher Kim Puccio (Sparta, N.J./Sparta) was named America East Pitcher of the Week, and has a 7-3 record to go with a team-low3.17 ERA. Junior pitcher Jessica Holte (Ashland, Va./Atlee) is 11-11 on the year and moved into a tie for third in all-time wins (43) with her victory on Wednesday. The lefty also is averaging 2.52 strikeouts per game and has an ERA of 3.89.
Scouting The River Hawks (10-38, 2-13):
UMass Lowell travels down to Baltimore after dropping an 8-0 decision in five innings against Boston College on Thursday.  River Hawk juniors Alisha Welch and Tori Alcorn lead the team's offense. Welch having the teams highest RBI of 18 and a batting average of .252. While Alcorn holds the teams highest batting average of .331 and 8 RBI. Freshman pitcher Kaysee Talcik has a low ERA of 3.32 with a total of 43 strikeouts.
