The UMBC Softball team will step out of America East play when it travels to Lehigh to face the Patriot League-Leading Mountain Hawks in a Saturday doubleheader that begins at 1 p.m.
UMBC (19-25, 3-8) enters the matchup having won two of three at America East rival Hartford, last weekend. The Retrievers are led by senior shortstop Bridget O'Malley (Baltimore, Md/Seton Keough) and her .402 average and 49 hits, both team-bests. third baseman Kaelin Jackson (Export, Pa/Franklin Regional) was on fire at the plate last week, as she batted .400 for the week (6-for-15) with .500 OBP and 1.333 slugging percentage. The junior hit four home runs, drove in eight runs, scored six runs, hit two doubles and walked twice.
Scouting the Mountain Hawks (29-10, 8-1)
Lehigh swept a home midweek doubleheader from Princeton, 1-0 and 7-4, and are 8-2 in their last ten games.
Morgan Decker paces the Mountain Hawk offense, with team-bests in average (.432), hits (48), doubles (16), home runs (six), RBI (32), total bases (82), slugging percentage (.739) and on-base percentage (.545).
Pitchers Christine Campbell (17-5) and Emily Sorem (12-5) have combined to start all 39 games for Lehigh. Campbell has a 2.50 ERA and two saves, while Sorem has a 2.59 ERA and a team-high 87 strikeouts.
