Softball Travels to Hartford for Critical America East Series

Baltimore, Md.- The UMBC Softball team will head right back on the road following a Thusrday split at UMES, when the travel to Hartford for a three game America East series that begins Saturday at 1 p.m.

UMBC (17-24, 1-7) was powered by third baseman Kaelin Jackson (Export, Pa./Franklin Regional) on Thursday, as the junior belted three home runs and drove in seven runs on the day. Senior short stop Bridget O'Malley (Baltimore, Md./Seton Keough) leads the Retriever offense, batting a team-best .421, with 48 hits, three homers, 24 RBI and 21 walks. Sophomore pitcher Kim Puccio (Sparta, N.J./Sparta) returned from a month long absence due to injury on Thursday and picked up the win in relief. Puccio is 5-3 on the season with a team-low 4.08 ERA and 40 strikeout (18 walks) in only 48 innings pitched.

Scouting the Hawks (4-29, 0-5)

Hartford enters the weekend on a five-game slide, having been swept, in three games, by Stony Brook and then dropping both ends of a road doubleheader at Marist on Wednesday. The Hawks have team batting average of .214 and slugging percentage .268. Danielle DeMarco leads the team in homers (three), RBI (12), runs (12) and hits (23). Pitchers Bianca Ross and Lexi Wilkerson have each made 16 appearances and have identical 2-10 records to go with ERAs of 7.17 and 6.88, respectively.
