Baltimore, Md. -- Due to impending inclement weather, the three-game weekend series between UMBC and Albany has been changed to a doubleheader on Sunday. There will be no third game. Sunday's first game is slated to start at 12:30, with game two set for 2:45.
UMBC (16-21, 1-5) enters the matchup on a five-game slide after reaching .500 for the first time this season on March 30th. The Retrievers dropped a 6-1 decision to local rival Morgan State at home Wednesday after being swept in three games by Binghamton last weekend.
Senior shortstop Bridget O'Malley (Baltimore, Md/Seton Keough) leads UMBC in average (.416), walks (19) and on-base percentage (.500), while being second on the team in hits (42), total bases (53) and slugging percentage (.525).
Junior pitcher Jessica Holte (Ashland, Va./Atlee) anchors the pitching staff with an 8-9 record and team-best 4.13 ERA. The lefthander also has a team-high 40 strikeouts in 100 innings pitched.
Scouting the Great Danes (19-8, 5-0)
Albany makes the trip down south riding a six game winning-streak, that includes all five of their conference wins. The Great Danes will be seeing their first action since April 2nd due to weather canceling their mid-week doubleheader at Bryant. Albany was at home for the first time all season last weekend and swept all three games from UMass Lowell.Junior Elizabeth Snow paces the Great Dane offense with team-bests in average (.389), on-base percentage (.515), doubles (seven) and home runs (five). Freshman pitcher Celeste Verdolivo is 7-3 in the circle and has a team-best 2.39 ERA. She was named America East Pitcher and Rookie of the Week after tossing a perfect game in an 8-0, six-inning win against UMass Lowell. Sophomore Devin Durando is 11-3 with a 3.31 ERa, striking out 52 batters in 80.1 innings of work.
