Towson, Md. —Junior pitcher Jessica Holte (Ashland, Va./Atlee) was named America East Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday morning. Holte earned the honor thanks to her five-inning complete game on Sunday's 11-0 win over Lafayette. The left-hander struck out four without a walk and allowed only three hits.
On Tuesday afternoon, the Retrievers (4-10) fell to Towson, 13-3, in five innings. The Tigers (11-3) took an early 1-0 lead, but UMBC went up 3-1 in the third after junior second baseman Jaclyn Buckley (Vorhees, N.J./Eastern Camden Regional) led off the inning with a solo home run to left center. Bridget O'Malley (Baltimore, Md./Seton Keough) gave the Retrievers a one-run advantage with a sacrifice fly, and freshman Chelsie Delperuto (Syracuse,N.Y./Solvay) added a third run with an RBI infield single. Towson got a run back in the bottom half of the inning and then exploded for 11 in the bottom of the fourth. Holte (1-4) took the loss, while Buckley and freshman Morgan Peyou (Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer Island) had two hits apiece.
UMBC returns to action on Saturday when it welcomes Rhode Island for a double-header to open the UMBC Retriever Classic at noon.
