UMBC Softball looks to continue their winning ways as they head to local rival Towson for a 2 p.m. game on Tuesday at the Tiger Softball Complex. The Retrievers (4-9) are coming off a Sunday sweep of Lafayette and UMES in Princess Anne, Md. The UMBC offense came alive on Sunday, outscoring their opponents by a combined score of 15-0. The Retrievers defeated Lafayette 11-0, in five innings, and UMES 4-0. Juniors Jessica Holte (Ashland, Va./Atlee) and Kelly Lane (Albany, N.Y./Colonie Central) each pitched complete game shutouts on Sunday and will look to continue the scoreless streak against a potent Tiger offense. Senior Bridget O'Malley (Baltimore, Md./Seton Keough) led the UMBC offense this past weekend, going 8-for-11 with four RBI, while sophomore Carly Lesko drove in five runs on Sunday alone, including a long 2-run homer to right-center.
Scouting the Tigers
Towson (10-3) is coming into the matchup on a three-game winning streak, and took four of five at the Winthrop Adidas Invitational this past weekend. Senior Ambar Hickman, who is currently 4-0 with a 2.20 ERA, and has struck out ten and walked four in 28.2 innings pitched, leads the Tigers in the circle. Sophomore catcher Shelby Stracher is batting .500 with four home runs and 16 RBI in 12 appearances to power the Towson offense.
