Softball Travels to UMES to Host UMBC Kickoff Tournament

The UMBC Softball team will look to continue their win streak as they travel to UMES to host the UMBC Kickoff Tournament this weekend.

Though the tournament is now at UMES, the Retrievers will remain the host team and will remain the home team in all four games they play.

The Retrievers will face two teams, Lafayette and UMES, two times each on the 27th and 28th.

UMBC (2-7) will look to rack up more wins after grabbing their first couple last weekend. Freshman Morgan Peyou (Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer Island) leads the team with a .455 average and was named America East Rookie of the Week. Sophomore Carly Lesko (New Milford, N.J./New Milford) and junior Kaelin Jackson (Export, Pa./Franklin Regional) are tied for the team lead in RBI with ten each, while Lesko has hit three home runs and Jackson has blasted two.

In the circle, the Retrievers will look to junior Kelly Lane (Albany, N.Y./Colonie Central) who pitched a complete-game last time out in a 15-4 win at Alabama State on Sunday.

University of Maryland, Eastern Shore (2-2) split their last four games back in the North Carolina A&T Aggie Invitational.  The Hawks' offense is led by junior infielder Allison Anderson, who started in all four games batting .308 with four RBI and a walk in 13 at-bats. Adrienne Guerra is projected to lead the UMES pitching staff with a 2.80 ERA to go along with her 1-1 record.
