Peyou Named America East Rookie of the Week; UMBC Kickoff Tournament Moved to UMES

Boston, Mass. -- Freshman outfielder Morgan Peyou (Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer Island) has been named America East Rookie of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon.

Peyou posted a team-best with a .455 average in her first eight games, while batting second. The slap-hitter has two RBI as well. The freshman also leads the team in on-base percentage (.500), is tied for first in steals (four), ranks second in runs scored (eight), and is third in slugging percentage (.455).

Also, she scored the game-winning run in the sixth inning of the Retrievers come-from-behind 6-5 win over an 8-3 Nicholls State team last weekend.

"Morgan had a tremendous week," UMBC Coach Joe French said. "She continued to put pressure on the defense each and every at-bat."

French also announced that the UMBC Kickoff Tournament, slated for this weekend at UMBC, has been moved to UMES due to weather and field conditions.

All game times and pairings will remain the same, and the Retrievers will remain the home team in all four games they play.
