Jackson's Six RBI, Lesko's Grand Slam, Powers UMBC Past Alabama State.

MONTGOMERY, ALA.-- Kaelin Jackson (Export, Pa./Franklin Regional) hit a two-run homer and drove in six runs while Carly Lesko (New Milford, N.J./New Milford) belted a grand slam, and teammate Danielle O'Neill (Lothian, Md./Southern) added a three-run shot as the UMBC Softball team rolled to a 15-4 victory over host Alabama State on Sunday.

That was UMBC's final game in Alabama State's Black & Gold tournament. The Retrievers (2-7) now have won two in a row.
Alabama State (3-9) took a 2-0 lead in the first inning but UMBC starter Kelly Lane (Albany, N.Y., Colonie Central) settled down after that and went the distance. Lane (1-2) scattered eight hits while the Retrievers scored nine straight runs and took command.

UMBC also broke the game open with six runs in both the fourth and seventh innings.
Jackson came up with her six RBI thanks to a pair of two-run singles and her two-run homer in the third. Lesko's grand slam proved to be the big hit in that six-run fourth, and she ended up with four RBI.
O'Neill's three-run homer brought in half of the runs in the six-run seventh while she wound up with three RBI. Morgan Peyou (Mercer Island, Wash., Mercer Island) added four hits and drove in the team's other run.
The Retrievers return to action next Saturday, February 27, when they host Lafayette and UMES in the UMBC Kickoff Tournament. The Dawgs will face each opponent twice, beginning with UMES on Saturday at 12:45 p.m.
