BOSTON – UMBC softball's Taylor Hall (Cosby, Va./Cosby) and Tori Alexander (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge Senior) helped the Retrievers take two of three America East weekly awards, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday.
Hall earned her first America East Player of the Week honor of the season and the fourth of her career, while Alexander was recognized as the league's Rookie of the Week for the second time this season.
The duo guided the Retrievers to a 5-0 week and helped UMBC outscore its opponents 44-7.
Hall hit .545 (6-for-11) for the week and batted .667 (4-for-6) with runners in scoring position to tally a team-best eight RBI. The veteran reached base safely in all five games, posting a .625 on-base percentage, to extend her streak to 18 games.
Hall made leaps in the Retrievers' all-time record books, moving up to third in home runs (31), third in walks (86), sixth in RBI (130), sixth in extra-base hits (72) and seventh in doubles (41).
Alexander batted a team-best .615 in the five games and extended her hitting streak to 12 games. She recorded eight hits in 13 at bats and drew five walks for a .722 on-base percentage. The rookie drove in three runs, scored seven runs and added a pair of stolen bases. Alexander has reach base safely in each of the last 20 games in the lead-off position.
