BALTIMORE– UMBC Softball Head Coach Joe French has added freshman transfer Emily Neal (Bear, Del./Caravel Academy) to the roster for the 2015 season.
"We are very excited to pick up Emily Neal, a transfer from UMass, who is usually one of the top-40 teams in the country," said French. "Emily brings a blend of speed, defense and great bat control to our lineup. We are also excited because a First Team NFCA High School All-American doesn't land on your campus all the time. She was one of the top three outfielders in high school in the country last year, so she should be a great addition to our team."
Neal joins the Retrievers from UMass and will be eligible immediately for French's squad, which is set to open its 2015 slate on Friday, Feb. 6 at the Charleston Southern Tournament.
Neal was a five-year letterwinner and two-time state champion at Caravel Academy in Bear, Delaware. The outfielder was a four-time All-State selection, being named to the first team as a freshman and senior and the second team as a sophomore and junior. She is a two-time NFCA All-East Region selection after combining to hit .400 during her final two seasons with the Buccaneers. As a senior, Neal was named to the NFCA All-America First Team.
