  • Sharp, Schuler Honored As America East Presidential Scholar-Athletes

    UMBC seniors Kathleen Sharp (Toms River, N.J./Toms River/Brookdale CC) and Eric Schuler (Columbia, Md./Reservoir) were honored as America East Presidential Scholar-Athletes, as announced by the conference office on Thursday. To be considered for the award, the student-athlete must be a graduating senior with a 3.75 or higher GPA.

    UMBC softball’s senior Taylor Hall (Cosby, Va./Cosby) moved up to eighth all-time at UMBC in career hits, going 1-for-2 in her final collegiate game on Saturday afternoon at University Field. The Retrievers fell 10-2 in six innings in the season finale against Stony Brook.

    UMBC softball struggled to get production from its bats in Friday afternoon’s America East doubleheader at University Field. Stony Brook tallied a pair of victories against the Retrievers on the day with a 4-0 win in game one and a 9-0 five-inning win in game two.
  • UMBC Softball Splits Midweek Doubleheader with Maine

    UMBC softball came one out away from picking up a pair of critical America East victories in Wednesday afternoon’s neutral site doubleheader against Maine. The Retrievers came from behind for a 2-1 victory in game one behind a two-run double from junior Danielle O’Neill (Lothian, Md./Southern), but UMBC was unable to hold on to a 2-0 lead in the top of the seventh, falling 3-2 in game two at University Field on the campus of Stony Brook.
  • UMBC Softball Travels to Stony Brook for Five Games in Four Days

    UMBC softball closes out the regular-season with five games in four days at University Field on the campus of Stony Brook, as the Dawgs battle for a playoff spot. The Retrievers will take on Maine in a rescheduled doubleheader on Wednesday, April 29, with an 11 a.m. first pitch. The Dawgs will close out the year with a three-game series against Stony Brook, beginning with a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Friday, May 1.

    UMBC softball dropped the America East series finale to Binghamton on Sunday afternoon at UMBC Softball Stadium, registering four hits and leaving seven runners on base in a 4-0 loss to the Bearcats.
  • UMBC Softball Drops AE Doubleheader to Binghamton
    April 25, 2015
    UMBC softball struggled to get clutch hits in Saturday’s America East doubleheader against Binghamton, stranding 21 runners on base in the two contests to drop both games of the doubleheader to the Bearcats. UMBC left the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh of an 8-5 loss in game one before falling 5-1 in the day’s second game at UMBC Softball Stadium. Due to expected weather in the Baltimore area, the series finale on Sunday, April 26 has been moved to 1 p.m.

    EMMITSBURG, Md. – UMBC softball’s sophomore Kaelin Jackson (Export, Pa./Franklin Regional) batted .600 with a .714 on-base percentage in Tuesday afternoon’s doubleheader at Mount St. Mary’s. The Retrievers defeated the Mount, 10-5, in game one, but Mount St. Mary’s picked up the split with a 4-2 win in the second game of the day at Meadows Field.

    UMBC softball senior catcher Taylor Hall (Cosby, Va./Cosby) launched the sixth home run of her career to become the 10th player in program history to record 200 hits in her career in game one of Friday’s non-conference doubleheader against South Carolina State at UMBC Softball Stadium. The Retrievers combined for 25 hits in the two games en route to a pair of walk-off six inning victories, including a 14-6 win in game one and a 12-4 victory in game two.
  • UMBC Softball Hosts a Pair of Non-Conference Doubleheaders Over the Weekend

    UMBC softball continues non-conference action on its America East bye-week by hosting a pair of doubleheaders at UMBC Softball Stadium over the weekend. The Retrievers will welcome South Carolina State to Baltimore on Friday, April 17 with a 1 p.m. first pitch, followed by a Saturday, April 18 doubleheader against Lehigh. Saturday will mark Senior Day for the Retrievers, which will be celebrated between the 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. doubleheader.

    UMBC softball registered 14 hits in Tuesday’s non-conference doubleheader against La Salle, but the Retrievers used all of their offense in game one as a pair of three-run home runs helped UMBC to defeat La Salle, 6-1, but the Explorers held the Retrievers to two hits en route to a 6-0 victory in game two.

    UMBC softball dropped the first two games of its conference slate to Albany on Sunday, falling in a tough 11-6 battle in game one and suffering a 1-0 setback in the rubber match at Albany Field. Senior Taylor Hall (Cosby, Va./Cosby) drove in a pair of runs on the day with a double, moving her into a tie for fourth on UMBC’s all-time RBI list (137) and sixth on the Retrievers’ all-time doubles list (42).
  • UMBC Softball Edges Albany in Series Opener, 3-2

    UMBC softball’s junior infielder Bridget O’Malley (Baltimore, Md./Seton Keough) drove in a pair of runs on a single up the middle in the top of the fifth inning to help the Retrievers take the series opener against Albany on Saturday afternoon at Albany Field and remain unbeaten in league play. Game two of the day was pushed back to Sunday, April 12, which will now feature a doubleheader starting at 11:30 a.m. at Albany Field.
