Annapolis, Md. – The UMBC men's cross country squad completed its second meet in an eight-day span as the Retrievers made the short trip to the USNA cross country course and competed in warm early morning conditions at the academy.
Seven Retrievers finished the 8k course within a span of 50 seconds, paced by Rhys Burgett (Severna Park), who placed 13th overall in a time of 26;12.74. Junior Urgy Eado (Rockville, Md./Wootton) and sophomore Nathan Nadal (Silver Spring, Md./Wootton) crossed in back-to-back positions, coming in 15th (26:25.27) and 16th (26:28.10) respectively.
Senior Jon Luckin (Parkton, Md./Hereford) and junior Luke Kessler (Haddon Township, N.J.) completed the scoring for UMBC. Luckin finished 19th in a time of 26:46.36, while Kessler was two slots behind at 26:53.06.
National power Navy occupied the first five positions in the meet and totaled 15 points. .GW (61) edged UMBC (64) for second, while Loyola (131) and McDaniel (137) rounded out the field.
Thirty-six competitors took part in a junior varsity race on a 3.2 mile course. Junior Patrick Duboyce (New Market, Md./Linganore) produced the Retrievers' best effort, placing sixth overall in a time of 17:34.33.
The Retrievers will now have an extended break from competition. They do not see action again until Saturday, Oct. 1, when they compete in the Paul Short Invitational at Lehigh University.
