Prodanas, Nwanaga Lead UMBC Track and Field on Day One of ECAC/IC4A Championships

Princeton, N.J.—UMBC track and field continued the championship season at the 2019 ECAC/IC4A Outdoor Championships on Saturday with Alexios Prodanas and Kelechi Nwanaga leading the way. Prodanas took gold in the hammer throw with Nwanaga finishing first in the javelin.

Prodanas finished with his best throw of 64.45m to lead a trio of Retrievers in the event. Manos Kamtsiklis and Andrew Haberman finished 14th and 17th with throws of 55.86m and 55.06m respectively. Trenson Terry rounded out the field athletes with a 14th place finish in the long jump (6.53m).

Miles Smith led the men on the track with a tenth-place finish in the 800m with a time of 1:51.61. Taylor Baranoski and Nathan Nadal also competed on the men's side in the 1,500m (4:07.60) and the 3,000m steeplechase (9:39.41).

Nwanaga led a trio of women's events by finishing first in the javelin. Her toss of 53.39m earned her gold as the only female field performer of the day.

Kaya Knake finished 15th in the 800m run in a time of 2:10.49 with the 4x100m relay (Collese Daley, Erin Patrice, Asha Washington and Kara Patrice) rounding out the field with an eighth-place finish in 46.90.

The final day of the championships will commence tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. at Princeton.
