Prodanas Continues Historic Season at Penn State Tune-Up on Saturday


State College, Pa.-- UMBC track and field had a strong showing in their final meet before the America East Championships next weekend. Alexios Prodanas continued his historic indoor campaign, by once again rewriting the record books in the weight throw. The junior once again reset his personal and school record in the weight throw for the fourth time this year.

Prodanas finished in second place in the weight throw with a new school best toss of 21.26m, besting his previous best of 19.54m on his third attempt. The throw is also the 14th best throw in the nation this year. Manos Kamtsiklis placed fourth in the event with a toss of 18.13m.

On the track, Brooks Chaney took third in the 400m dash with a time of 53.81 and Nathan Nadal took fifth in the 3,000m with a time of 8:32.35 to lead the male runners. The 4x400m relay team of Isaiah Jensen, Erik Jenks, Miles Smith and Joe Viqueira took gold with a time of 3:29.06.

In the field, Trenson Terry and Rodney Sachiti went three-four in the long jump with jumps of 6.59m and 6.53m respectively. Maurice Johnson and Andrew Haberman finished fourth and fifth in the shot put with throws of 14.83m and 13.80m.

On the women's side, a slew of runners earned a top five finish on the track. Erin Patrice finished the 60m dash in first place in a time of 7.66 while sister Kara Patrice finished third in 7.88. Erin then turned in a third place finish in the 200m with a time of 25.19. Collese Daley was just behind her in the race in fifth place in a time of 25.50.

Kaya Knake and Tori Johnson finished four-five in the 400m with times of 56.70 and 58.22 respectively. Bridgett Redding rounded the top runners with a fifth place finish in the 800m in 2:14.46. The 4x400m relay team of Johnson, Ariella Garcia, Brianna Roberts and Knake took first with a time of 4:01.75.

In the field, Kelechi Nwanaga led the way with a first place finish in the shot put with a toss of 13.60m. Breanna Flores finished third in the event with a throw of 10.95m. Flores then turned in a fourth place performance in the weight throw with a toss of 14.13m, while Eleni Zotou took second with a throw of 15.16m.

The Retrievers will now head to Boston, looking to win the America East title at the 2019 America East Indoor Championships next Friday and Saturday, February 23-24.
