State College, Pa.-- Alexios Prodanas continued his strong indoor campaign by resetting his career and school record best at the Sykes & Sabock Challenge Cup in the weight throw. This is the third time this season Prodanas has set the mark this winter.
Prodanas finished the event in second place with a toss of 19.54m breaking his previous best mark of 18.98m at the NYC Gotham Cup. Fellow countryman Manos Kamtsiklis finished in fifth place in the event with a toss of 17.57m.
Trenson Terry, Rodney Sachiti and Divinus Muteba also had top ten finishes in the field. Terry took seventh in the long jump (6.56m) with Sachiti taking sixth in the triple jump (13.51m) and Muteba taking third in the high jump (1.97m).
Terry also finished in the top ten on the track taking ninth in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.02. Sean Wissman also earned a ninth place finish in the 60m dash in a time of 7.18 to round out the top sprinters.
Erin Patrice led the women with two top finishes in the 60m and 200m dashes. She crossed the finish line in the 60m in eighth place in a time of 7.95 and the 200m in 13th in a time of 25.77. Tori Johnson rounded out the top sprinters with a ninth place finish in the 400m with a time of 58.15.
Kaya Knake and Kelsey Ponton each had ninth place finishes in their respective events. Knake finished the mile in ninth place in a time of 5:01.55 while Ponton finished the 3,000m in 10:25.30. The 4x400m relay team of Johnson, Knake, Ariella Garcia and Collese Daley finished sixth in 3:52.20.
In the field, Kelechi Nwanaga led the way with a seventh place finish in the shot put with a toss of 13.80m.
UMBC will continue their march toward the America East Championships at the Fastrack National Invite next Friday, Feb. 8 at the Ocean Breeze Complex on Staten Island.
