Baltimore, Md.-- UMBC track and field will kick off the month of February at the Sykes & Sabock Challenge at Penn State on Saturday. The Retrievers once again had a record setting week last week, as Kaya Knake broke the school record in the 800m run at the Penn State National meet.

Last Time Out: (Penn State National & Patriot Games):

Kaya Knake set a new school record in the women's 800m in State College.

Knake finished the race in ninth place in a time of 2:10.85. The time breaks the record she set last year of 2:10.97. Morgan Casey and Bridgett Redding ran top ten times in school history in the 1,000m with times of 2:57.86 and 2:59.08 respectively. Casey finished the race in 8th while Redding finished 10th.

Other top finishers on the women's side included Tori Johnson in the 400m (7th, 58.52) and Ariella Garcia in the 600m (8th, 1:37.06).

On the men's side, Miles Smith had the best finish by a Retriever with his second place finish in the 800m with a time of 1:54.37. Isaiah Jenson and Divinus Muteba also had top ten finishes in the 600m and high jump. Jenson finished fifth with a time of 1:20.64 while Muteba took 6th with a jump of 1.96m.

Nathan Nadal took 13th in the 3,000m with a time of 8:46.66 and Trenson Terry finished 13th in the long jump with a jump of 6.76m to round out the top men's finishers at Penn State.

In Fairfax, Matt Kane and Erik Jenks turned in second place finishes in the mile and 500m dash respectively. Kane finished with a time of 4:22.81 while Jenks finished in a time of 1:07.85. John Olojo finished 12th in the 60m dash with a time of 7.22 while Nathan Trowell-Lopez took 7th in the 800m with a time of 2:03.21 to round out the top runners.

Jammer Robinson and Andrew Haberman led the Retriever men in the field with a 9th place finish in the long jump (4.55m) and 7th place finish in the weight throw (14.75m).

Ryanna Kimbembe had the best finish on the women's side with a fourth place finish in the 500m dash in 1:20.55. CC Davies finished just behind her in the race in seventh place in a time of 1:21.58. Margo Henley and Emma Kartalia finished sixth and 11th in the 3,000m with times of 10:48.09 and 10:59.08 respectively with Leanne Sneeringer finishing 12th in the mile in 5:33.47.

Breanna Flores led the field athletes with a ninth place finish in the weight throw with a toss of 13.40m.

Last Year at Sykes & Sabock:

John Oputa and Ifa Eado led the charge for the Retrievers, taking the bronze in the 400m dash and the mile run respectively.  Eado ran a time of 4:10.55, while Oputa ran a time of 49.94, and also took fourth place in the 200m dash with a time of 22.12.

James Oakley III placed fourth in the 400m dash with a time of 49.95, while in the 200m dash, Noel Njem took seventh in the 200m dash, finishing with a time of 23.20.

Rounding out the men on the track were Nathan Nadal and Miles Smith. Nadal ran a time of 8:54.43 to finish the 3,000m run in fourth, while Smith ran a time of 1:54.21 to take fifth place in the 800m run.

In the field, Russell Bowman took eighth place in the shot put, after recording a distance of 15.26m.

For the women, Amani Wallace led the way with a seventh-place finish in the 400m dash (57.85). Yinka Alabi took eighth in the 200m dash with a time of 25.49.

Zoya Trendafilova came in eighth in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.55m.
