Baltimore, Md. – UMBC track and field head south for their first outdoor meet of the season, traveling to Gainesville, Florida to compete in the Pepsi Florida Relays beginning on Thursday at 2 p.m., hosted by the University of Florida.

Last Time Out (America East Indoor Championships):
Sophomore Kaya Knake set the school record in the 800m event with a time of 2:10.97, taking fourth place. Classmate Tori Johnson earned a third-place finish in the 500m dash with a time of 1:15.98, and helped the relay team of herself, juniors Amani Wallace and Yinka Alabi, and senior Funmi Daramola earn the silver medal with a time of 3:48.37.
Daramola also took fifth in the 400m dash with a personal best time of 56.58, and sixth in the 200m dash with a time of 24.79. Wallace took sixth in the 400m with a personal best time of 56.77 and freshman Collese Daley took eighth with a time of 58.39.
Knake, classmates Briana Roberts and Bridgett Redding, and freshman Ariella Garcia took sixth place in the 4x800m relay, crossing the line in 9:25.18. Redding also took eighth in the 1,000m run with a time of 2:59.41, the seventh fastest time in school history.
For the men, seniors Jamal Cody and John Oputa led the way. Cody took the silver in the 60m hurdles, finishing with a time of 8.03, which was the third best all-time finish at UMBC. Cody also took sixth in the 400m dash with a time of 48.96. Oputa recorded a top five finish in the 200m dash with a time of 22.15, and a seventh-place finish in the 400m dash, with a time of 49.13.
Cody, Oputa, classmate Noel Njem and freshman Erik Jenks took fourth in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:19.45. Fellow senior Ifa Eado took fourth in the mile run, running his season best time of 4:09.64, while sophomore Miles Smith took seventh in the 800m run with a time of 1:53.63, and junior Matthew Kane finished in ninth in the 3,000m run, crossing the line in 8:29.45.
In the field, Russell Bowman took fourth in the shot put with a distance of 15.98m, while sophomore Michael Parkent threw a distance of 16.09m in the weight toss, which was good for seventh place. This was also the ninth best distance in UMBC's history.
UMBC will travel to Fairfax, Va. next week to take part in the Colonial Relays, hosted by George Mason.
