Prodanas Named #AETF Fielder Performer of the Week; Track and Field Heads to Penn Relays This Weekend

Baltimore, Md.—UMBC track and field freshman Alexios Prodanas (Kilkis, Greece) was named America East Male Field Performer of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday. Prodanas led the Retrievers last week, re-breaking his previous school record in the hammer throw at the Princeton Invitational last weekend. This weekend, the Retrievers head to the iconic Penn Relays as their final tune-up before the America East Championships.

Last Time Out (Morgan State Legacy Meet/Princeton Invitational):

Alexios Prodanas set a new school mark, breaking his previous best with a toss of 65.04m (213'4"). Other top finishers at Princeton included Nathan Nadal in the 3,000m steeplechase (26th, 9:34.12) and Urgy Eado in the 800m (48th, 1:54.14). Eado also crossed the finish line in a time of 3:57.39 to finish in first place in the 1,500m. Matthew Kane finished the race in tenth, clocking in at 4:00.96. Erick Soetje finished in the top five in the 400m with a fifth place finish in a time of 48.51.

Miles Smith and Marcus Foster also finished in the top ten in their respective races, the 800m and 400m hurdles. Smith finished in eighth in 1:54.48 while Foster finished in ninth in 54.71.

The 4x400m relay team of Jamal Cody, Foster, James Oakley III and Soetje took sixth in a time of 3:20.34.

In the field, Jacob Netschke finished sixth in the high jump at 2.04m (6'8.25").

At Morgan State, Lorenzo Neil and Matt Kingeter led the runners with a second and fourth place finish in the 5,000m. Neil took second in 15:33.08 and Kingeter took fourth in 15:37.29. Kyle Kulp (tenth, 400m hurdles) and Andrew Kereszetes (eighth, 800m) finished with times of 57.09 and 1:56.13 respectively.

Chase DeWitt took home fourth in the shot put at 14.82m (48'7.5") while Russell Bowman finished eighth in the event with a toss of 13.97m (45'10"). Michael Parkent and Russell Bowman competed in the hammer throw, taking fifth and seventh. Parkent finished with a toss of 46.63m (153') and Bowman as 43.79m (143'8").

Abigale Slonski led the way for the women in Princeton with a seventh place finish in the javelin with a throw of 42.04m (137'11"). Sophia Cologer and Chelsea Vane also competed at Princeton in the 5,000m and 3,000m steeplechase. Cologer finished in 31st with a time of 17:34.23 while Vane took 28th in 11:05.44.

Ricca Graham took part in the hammer throw at Morgan State, finishing in 20th with a toss of 32.97m (108'2").

Alexios Prodanas continued his strong rookie campaign with the Retrievers, resetting his career best in the hammer throw at the Princeton Invitational last weekend. Prodanas had a toss of 65.04m (213'4") to earn gold in the event. His throw at Princeton ranks 37th nationally in the event.

The Retrievers will head to New Hampshire for the 2017 America East Outdoor Track and Field Championships. This year's meet will be held at the Reggie Atkins Track and Field Facility on May 6-7.
