Cologer, Omar Earn America East Outdoor Track and Field All-Academic Honors

Boston, Mass.—UMBC track and field junior Sophia Cologer (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) and senior Hassan Omar (Frederick, Md./Thomas Johnson) were named America East Outdoor Track and Field All-Academic Selections, the conference announced on Thursday.

Omar, who was also an Indoor All-Academic selection earlier this season, capped his career with yet another strong campaign outdoors. The Frederick, Md. native was once again named Most Outstanding Track Performer, winning both the 5,000 and 10,000m races at the America East Championships. He qualified for the NCAA Preliminaries in the 10,000m. At the prelims, he capped off his historic career with a 19th place finish in 30:24.

Cologer has a breakout outdoor season, breaking the school record at the ECAC Championships in the 3,000m steeplechase. She finished the race in tenth place with a time of 10:35.59, besting the mark she set last year at 10:37.89. The Annapolis native took fourth in the event at the America East Championships, as the women finished in third place.
