Omar, Rentzsch, Rana Set for NCAA East Preliminaries This Week

Baltimore, Md.—A trio of Retrievers are set to compete at the NCAA East Preliminaries this Thursday through Saturday. Hassan Omar, Vincent Rentzsch, and Isahq Rana will compete at the meet, looking for a chance to qualify for the NCAA Championships in Oregon in a couple weeks.

Day One:

The 4x800m relay team of Nick Johnson, Rami Phillips, Andrew Kereszetes and Urgy Eado placed 12th with a time of 8:01.56. Niko Coaxum, Erick Soetje, James Oakley, and Darrius Oxley qualified for the finals of the 4x400m relay with an eighth place finish in a time of 3:17.18.

Eado took the track in the 1,500m run, taking 38th with a time of 4:03.18. Afees Abolurin and Daryian Miles took part in the 100m dash with times of 11.00 (27th) and 11.06 (31st) respectively. Erick Soetje had the best finish of any Retriever on Saturday, placing 14th in the 400m dash crossing the tape in a time of 48.31.

Oxley ran in the 400m hurdles, placing 24th in a time of 56.35. Miles and Oakley rounded out the Retriever runners in the 200m dash. Oakley qualified for the finals, taking fifth with a time of 21.56, while Miles finished 21st in 22.10.

Day Two:

For the men, James Oakley III led the track runners with a fourth place finish in the 200m dash finals, crossing the tape in 21.81. The 4x400m relay squad of Erick Soetje, Niko Coaxum, Oakley, and Darrius Oxley finished sixth in a time 3:15.60, shaving two seconds off their prelim time.

Thomas Johnson finished 14th in the triple jump with a jump of 14.28m (46'10.25") to lead the field athletes.

Should either man qualify, they will compete at the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore. on June 8-11 at iconic Hayward Field at the University of Oregon.
