Indianapolis, In.—A triad of Retriever men earned a spot in the NCAA East Preliminaries next week, the NCAA announced on Thursday. Hassan Omar, Vincent Rentzsch and Isahq Rana will all compete in the meet, looking to qualify for a spot in the NCAA Championships in Oregon a couple weeks later.
Omar will be heading to Jacksonville for the second straight season, competing in the 10,000m run. The Frederick native ran in the 5,000m run at last year's prelims, while winning both the 5,000m and 10,000m at this year's America East Championships.
Rentzsch returns to the preliminaries for the fourth time in his career, looking to get to the NCAA Championships for the second straight season in the javelin. Last year he finished 21st in the nation with a toss of 64.71m.
Rana will be making his first appearance in Jacksonville, taking to the shot put competition. Rana comes into the competition with a seed mark of 17.23m.
The preliminaries will take place at the University of North Florida from Thursday, May26 through Saturday, May 28.
