Baltimore, Md.—UMBC track and field gets the outdoor portion of the season started with the Raleigh Relays on Friday and Saturday, with live coverage on ESPN 3. The teams have not run since March 5-6 at the IC4A/ECAC Championships that ended the indoor season.

Last Time Out (IC4A/ECAC Championships):
The men saw freshmen Jamal Cody earn a spot in the 60m hurdle semi-finals, taking 17th place in the prelims with a time of 8.29. He followed that up with a semi-final finish of 15th place with a time of 8.28. Erick Soetje earned a spot in the finals of the 500m run, taking ninth in a time of 1:03.50.
The men had a pair of field competitors in Ishaq Rana and Thomas Johnson on day two. Rana took home eleventh place in the shot put with a throw of 16.18m, while Johnson finished 16th in the triple jump at 14.13m.
The women were led by Essence Fredericks, who placed sixth in the 500m run prelims with a time of 1:14.54.Essence Fredericks was the lone track runner on day two, earning a top ten finish in the 500m run. Fredericks took home seventh place in the 500m run, crossing the finish line in a time of 1:14.19.
In the field, Ozi Edokobi and Nneoma Edokobi took to the shot put competition, taking fifth and 15th respectively. Ozi had her best toss of 14.06m, while Nneoma's best throw was 12.93m. Nneoma Edokobi took 13th in the weighted throw, with a toss of 16.52m (54'2.5").
The Retrievers will split next week, with some of the team heading to the Florida Relays in Gainesville, Fla., while others will be at the Colonial Relays in Williamsburg, Va. Both meets will run from Thursday, March 31 through Saturday, April 2.
