State College, Pa.—UMBC track and field took to the annual Sykes & Sabock Challenge Cup on Friday, completing day one of the meet.
The men saw senior Daryian Miles run a 7.02 in the 60m dash, earning himself a spot in the finals. Freshman Jamal Cody placed sixth in the prelims of the 60m hurdles, crossing the finish line in a time of 8.29. In the finals, Cody placed eighth with a time of 8.46.
In the field, Isahq Rana placed 11th in the weighted throw, with his best toss of 16.80m (55'01.5").
On the women's side, Mercedes Tillman was the top Retriever in the 60m dash prelims, finishing tenth in a time of 7.80. Freshman Erin Patrice tied for tenth in the prelims also running a 7.80.
Chelsea Vane was the lone distance runner on the afternoon, placing ninth in the 5,000m with a time of 18:12.30.
Jean Udo and Madeleine Entwistle both qualified for the finals of the 60m hurdles, both with times of 9.09. In the final heat, Udo placed fourth in a time of 8.95, while Entwistle took sixth in 9.03.
Udo then took to the long jump, where she finished 12th with a jump of 5.23m (17'2"). Nneoma Edokobi was the top Retriever in the field, placing seventh in the weighted throw with a toss of 16.90m (55'05.5").
Day two of the meet will begin at 11:00 a.m. from Penn State.
