BALTIMORE – More school records fell by the wayside as the UMBC track and field team opened weekend competition at the Morgan State Legacy Meet and the Larry Ellis Invitational at Princeton.
At the crosstown meet at Morgan State, freshman Sophia Cologer (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) broke the UMBC program record in the 3,000m steeplechase while in New Jersey, seniors Cody Mezebish (Westminster, Md./South Carroll) and Andrew Smith (Chadds Ford, Pa./Garnet Valley) both bettered their own marks in the 800m run.
Competing in Baltimore, Cologer bested the field by crossing the line with a time of 11:22.35. Her time is a 22-second improvement over her previous best (11:44.42) set two weeks ago at the Colonial Relays, and eclipses the previous Retriever record of 11:29.56 set by Keri Wilson in 2012.
At Princeton, Mezebish clipped her school record time of 2:10.68 set last week at George Mason by placing second in her heat and 13th overall with a time of 2:10.38. The Retriever senior came into the weekend trailing only Albany's Brianne Bellon whose top time of 2:09.95 set at the ECAC Indoor Championships. Smith, meanwhile, trimmed his school record from 1:50.05 set last week, down to 1:49.64 and finished sixth out of 72 competitors. The senior entered the weekend leading the conference while ranking 50th in the nation.

DiSalvo topped the field in Baltimore with a time of 9:33.13, and in New Jersey Semeon improved his America East leading time to 9:07.52 and McGee crossed the line at 9:30.69.
Senior Jake Albino (Hampton, N.Y./Minisink Valley) ran a season-best time of 3:52.04 while competing in the 1,500m run in the Garden State.

His throw also moves him up to fourth all-time in the Retriever record book. Freshman Abigale Slonski (Griswold, Conn./Griswold) was just off of her personal-best with a toss of 31.61m (103'8") in the women's competition.

In his second throw of the afternoon, Serafenas registered a distance of 55.65m (182'7"), nearly 13 feet farther than the second-place finisher. Senior Ray Stinsman III (Mt. Laurel, N.J./Lenape) finished fourth, recording a season-best toss of 48.53m (159'3").
