Track and Field Breaks Three School Records at Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA—The UMBC men's and women's track and field teams broke three school records at the Penn Relays at historic Franklin Field this weekend.


The men's shuttle hurdles relay team of seniors Keith Brown(Columbia, Md./McDonough), Dominic Devaud (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) and Keith Onto (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant Boro/St. Francis (PA)) and sophomoreTrae Proctor (Brandywine, Md./Thomas Stone) finished seventh in the school record time of 59.24, shattering the previous record of 1:01.64 set in 1993.


In the men's distance medley relay, the team of seniorMichael Christmas (Invercargill, New Zealand/James Hargest College), junior Joshua Hewitson (New Market, Md./Linganore), freshman Andrew Smith(Chadds Ford, Pa./Garnet Valley) and senior Chris Snyder (McConnellsburg, Pa./McConnellsburg) broke the UMBC mark in 10:02.99, almost three seconds faster than the previous record of 10:05.86, set two years ago.


On the women's side, the sprint medley relay team of senior Britney Foreman (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake), sophomore Ashley Ajayi (Bowie, Md./Elizabeth Seton), freshmanDeborah Adelola (Lanham, Md./Bladensburg) and senior Sara Parkinson (Chorley, England/Loughborough University) clocked in with a school-record time of 4:07.36.


The Retrievers return to action next weekend when they host the 2011 America East Outdoor Championships at UMBC Stadium.
