Track and Field Picks Up Six Golds at Rider/Lafayette Winter Games

NEW YORK--The UMBC men's and women's track and field teams won six golds and set several season-best times in their final tune-up to the America East Championhips at the Rider/Lafayette Winter Games Friday evening.

Sophomore Amanda Deller (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen) swept the throwing events, taking the shot put with a throw of 14.09m and the weight throw with a heave of 16.13m.

Senior Sara Parkinson (Chorley, England/Loughborough University) won the 1-mile run in 4:55.32 and the 1,000-meter run in 2:59.23. Both times were UMBC season-best times.

In the 60-meter hurdles, junior Imani Colbert (Upper Marlboro, Md./C.H. Flowers) won gold in an ECAC-qualifying time of 8.74, while sophomore Chowan Brightful (New Market, Md./Linganore) finished second in 8.97 and junior Fallon Rovel-Jones (Owings Mills, Md./New Town) placed third in 9.21.

Freshman Deborah Adelola (Lanham, Md./Bladensburg) claimed gold in the 500-meter dash in 1:16.69, a UMBC season-best time.

Junior Kiki Malomo-Paris (Northern Ireland/Glenlola Collegiate School) earned silver in the long jump with a UMBC season-best leap of 5.59m, while Brightful took second in the high jump with a Retriever season-best mark of 1.65m.

On the men's side, junior Joshua Hewitson (New Market, Md./Linganore) set UMBC season-best times in the 200- and 400-meter dashes in 22.69 and 49.81, respectively. Senior Martin Nevarez (Casa Grande, Ariz./Central Arizona College) placed fourth in the pole vault with an IC4A-qualifying and UMBC season-best mark of 4.80m.

In the 60-meter hurdles, sophomore Trae Proctor (Brandywine, Md./Thomas Stone) earned silver in a time of 8.27, while senior Keith Brown (Columbia, Md./McDonough) placed fourth in 8.31.

Freshman Mo Drammeh (Frederick, Md./Thomas Johnson) finished second in the high jump, hitting a mark of 1.99m.
