COLLEGE PARK, Md.-- The UMBC outdoor track and field teams opened their season Saturday at the Maryland Invitational. The men's team finished fourth with 51 points, while the women's team placed seventh with 19 points
The men's 4x100-meter relay team of juniors Jason Powell (Bowie, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt), Adrian Arthur (Bowie, Md./Bowie), Mohamed Koroma (Mitchelville, Md./C.H. Flowers/Morgan State) and Antonio Thomas(Columbia, Md./Long Reach) earned gold in an IC4A-qualifying time of 41.85.
Junior Dominic Devaud (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) won the pole vault, hitting a mark of 4.42m (14'6"), while senior Nick Burnett (Endicott, N.Y./Cornell University) placed second. Senior Keith Brown (Columbia, Md./McDonough) finished fourth in the 110-meter hurdles in an IC4A-qualifying time of 14.77.
The women's 4x100-meter relay team of sophomore Waquesha Canty (Landover, Md./C.H. Flowers), junior Tawana Wilson (Yorktown, Va./Tabb), freshman Imani Colbert (Upper Marlboro, Md./C.H. Flowers) and juniorBritney Foreman (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) finished third in an ECAC-qualifying time of 48.03. Foreman and Canty also ran ECAC-qualifying times in the 100-meter dash prelims.
The Retrievers return to action April 3-4 in Williamsburg, Va. for the Colonial Relays.
