Svard, Loubatie Triumph, But Men's Tennis Drops Narrow Decision at Richmond

Richmond, Va. – In a tightly-contest match, host Richmond pulled out a 4-2 decision over the UMBC men's tennis team. Only singles matches were contested between the Spiders and Retrievers.

Richmond improved to 10-6 on the season, while UMBC moved to 8-5.

Juniors Melker Svard (Gothenburg, Sweden) and Elliot Loubatie (Paris, France) both earned victories for the visitors. At No. 3 singles, Svard got back on the winning track with a 7-5, 7-6 victory on Canyon Teague, while Loubatie edged Jonathan Quenard, 7-6, 6-3, at the No. 5 flight.

There was one three-set match on the day, but senior No. 6 Daniel Gray (Bowie, Md./The Bullis School) fell just short, dropping  7-6, 5-7, 6-4 decision to Alex Hahn.

UMBC gets back in action versus Navy at home on April 1. The first serve is set for 2:00 p.m.
