Tennis "Dynamic Duo" Falls to National Power UVA in ITA Regional Final

Charlottesville, Va. – The UMBC doubles duo of senior Daniel Gray (Bowie, Md./The Bullis School) and junior Alex Drean (Bayonne, France) could not pull off a final upset and fell to the fifth-seeded team of Virginia's Ryan Shane and Luca Corinteli, 6-3, 6-3, in the championship doubles match of the ITA Atlantic Regionals.

Shane and Corinteli captured Virginia's fifth ITA Regional doubles title.

Gray and Drean started brightly, breaking the Cavalier pair in the first game of the match. But UVA broke right back. The Cavs would break in the sixth game and went on to a 6-3 first set triumph.

The Retrievers were broken in the first game of the second set, but would even the set at 2-2 with a break of serve in the fourth game. But the hosts returned the favor and held on to capture the second set by an identical 6-3 score.

Gray and Drean, the No. 7 seeds, won four matches, including contests vs. the Nos. 2 and 7-seeded squads to reach the finals.
