BOSTON, Mass. – After opening the season with a sweep against Delaware and Johns Hopkins, three UMBC swimming and diving student-athletes have received America East Performer of the Week awards for the week ending October 7.
Senior Hania Moro (New Cairo, Egypt) was named America East Female Swimmer of the Week after she placed first in the 200 free (1:52.69), 500 free (5:00.42), and 1000 free (10:18.02). She also helped lead the Retrievers to a win in the 400 free relay.
Freshman Tiago Asakawa (Sumaré, Brazil) earned Male Swimmer of the Week after opening his collegiate career with wins in the 50 free (20.75) and 100 fly (50.74). Asakawa also swam in the 200 medley relay, where the team broke the UMBC pool record in a time of 1:30.65.
Senior Elijah Wright (Baltimore, Md./Loyola Blakefield) was named Male Diver of the Week after winning both the 1 meter (252.6) and 3 meter (273.75) events.
The Retrievers will return to the pool on Friday, Oct. 12 when they head to Annapolis to take on Navy at 4 p.m.
