Charlotte, N.C.—UMBC swimming and diving freshmen Alexander Gliese (Columbia, Md./Long Reach) and Elijah Wright (Baltimore, Md./Loyola Blakefield) earned CCSA (Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association) Swimmer and Diver of the Week honors, the conference announced on Tuesday.
Gliese was a force for the Retrievers in the pool, as he won a pair of races to lead UMBC in a loss to Rider on Saturday. The Columbia native won the 100 back in a time of 51.00, while also winning the 200 back with a time of 1:50.88.
Wright was the top Retriever finisher on the boards for the second straight meet, as he earns his second CCSA Diver of the Week award. Wright placed third in 3 meter dive (241.20) and fourth on the 1 meter boards (176.40).
UMBC will be back in the pool against local-rival Navy on Friday, Oct. 16. The meet with the Midshipmen will be the team's pink meet, as they look to "Drown Out Breast Cancer". The meet with Navy is slated to begin at 4:00 p.m. at the UMBC Aquatic Complex.
